Fanshawe College to Deliver First Schedule F Additional Qualification Course

Fanshawe College to Deliver First Schedule F Additional Qualification Course

Delivery of AQ courses by Colleges is relatively new. Offering AQ courses at the colleges encourages collaboration and collegiality across all levels of education in Ontario and allows exposure of secondary school teachers to the college system.

Fanshawe College has been accredited* by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) to offer Schedule C, D and F Additional Qualification (AQ) courses to elementary and secondary school teachers and this summer the college will be offering it’s first two AQ courses.

The first two AQ courses to be delivered at Fanshawe are:

Schedule D – Kindergarten Part I:

Schedule D courses are 3 part specialist courses (Part I, II, and Specialist). The differences in the 3 part courses are pedagogical, and allow for teachers to become specialists and experts in a specific area of study. The completion of a 3 part specialist AQ, can also be used to progress to leadership positions. The Simcoe Norfolk Regional Campus will run the first of a 3 part specialist AQ in Kindergarten this July 2019.

Schedule F – Teaching Hospitality and Tourism – Baking:

Schedule F courses are available exclusively to teachers with technological education qualifications and have never been offered before. OCT and the Ontario Council of Technology Education (OCTE) strongly endorse the development and delivery of the Schedule F AQ courses which serve to: a) provide recognized continuing education opportunities for elementary and secondary school teachers; b) promote high school students’ interest in broad-based technological areas, including apprenticeship and vocational programming available in the college system, through enhanced secondary teachers’ practice and collaborations; and c) address growing supply/demand gap for skilled tradespeople in Ontario.

As an incentive, Fanshawe will waive the registration fee for the first person to sign up!
