Attention Hairstyling and Aesthetics Technological Educators
Starting in 2019, Ontario will adopt the Red Seal model for the hairstylist trade, giving individuals the ability to obtain a Red Seal Endorsement on their Certificate of Qualification as a 332A Hairstylist. As of January 1, 2019, all apprentices in the hairstylist trade will be required to complete both (1) a written exam and then (2) a practical assessment, to become certified in the hairstylist trade.
The practical assessment will be conducted at local testing centres across the province in 2019. Although the first practical assessments will not take place until early 2019, all apprentices must be aware of the new certification requirement. Individuals who are approved through the Ontario College of Trades’ (College) Trade Equivalency Assessment process when the practical assessment is made available in 2019, will also be required to complete both the written exam and the practical assessment.
Upon successful completion of both the written exam and then the practical assessment, a Certificate of Qualification with a Red Seal Endorsement will be issued by the College.
The Red Seal Endorsement is a professional designation that recognizes the knowledge, skills and experience of the journeyperson. The Red Seal Endorsement signifies the standard of excellence of the Red Seal Program from the College of Trades
